Adult Volunteers

Adult Volunteers

Whether you’re a parent/guardian of one of our young members, someone who loved scouting when you were younger, or a local resident looking for a way to help contribute to the community, we’re always on the lookout for people who can help us.  You might be the person we need to take on a one-off project or some occasional tasks that you have time or skills to help with.  Or you might fit into a behind-the-scenes admin role, helping to manage our communications or fundraising or equipment or vehicles or finances.  Or if you think you would enjoy helping young people learn skills for life, we’re always looking for people to join our teams of uniformed leaders.

The group is run entirely by volunteers from the local community; almost all of them are parents with young people in the group.  All parents are encouraged to join in and help out as much as possible.  At a minimum, we ask parents to help (and join in the fun) at the weekly meetings, once or twice a term, and at the occasional camp or off-site event.  We also ask all parents to participate in our annual fund-raising event, when we operate a Christmas tree disposal service one weekend in early January.  We require all parents who plan to attend meetings or camps with young people to be DBS checked and run a DBS checking service to this end.

We are always looking for parents or other adult volunteers to become section team members, who work together with experienced leaders to plan and run a programme of meetings and events.  We’ll provide all the training you need, and if you are a parent, we will fast-forward your child’s application to join the group.

Parents or other adults from the local community can also help in administrative roles: as a trustee, helping to oversee the running of the charity; as a parent representative, managing communications among section parents through a WhatsApp group; as a quartermaster, helping to keep our stores in order, or by providing accounting, website management or other professional skills.

If you’d like to offer your time as an adult volunteer, please let us know by filling out the form below.
