About Us

1st Weston Green Scouts is a small but very active scout group based at All Saints Weston (the White Church).

We have four sections – Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts – for boys and girls from age 6 to 18. Each section meets weekly during school terms on a weekday evening for an hour or two of fun indoor or outdoor activities. We also lay on a full program of camps and other events, some for an individual section and others for the whole group.

1st Weston Green is one of eleven groups that make up the Esher District Scouts and we participate fully in District events, which annual camps, hikes and cross-country runs. As part of our national Scout Association, our young people can get the chance to participate in events throughout the country and even abroad.

Scouting for Parents

When a young person joins 1st Weston Green Scouts, their parents or carers become part of the group too. The group is run entirely by volunteers, and parents are encouraged to join in and help out as much as possible. At a minimum, we ask parents to help (and join in the fun) at the weekly meetings, once or twice a term, and at the occasional camp or off-site event. We also expect all parents to participate in our annual fund-raising event, when we operate a Christmas tree disposal service one weekend in early January.

We are always looking for parents to become section assistants, who help our section leaders to plan and run the programme of meetings and events. We’ll provide all the training you need for this role, and we’ll fast-forward your child’s application to join the group! Some parents go further and, after further training, become section leaders or assistant leaders.

Parents can also help in administrative roles: as a member of our Board of Trustees, helping to ensure the charity is run properly; as a parent representative, managing communications among section parents through a WhatsApp group; as a quartermaster, helping to keep our stores in order, or by providing accounting, website management or other professional skills.

We also invite parents to join in the fun. We hold summer family camps, at which the whole family is welcome to come along, camp together, and experience an action-packed weekend of outdoor activities.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
