Christmas Tree Collection Fundraiser

Date: 12th Jan 2026 Author: Nigel Harris

Over the weekend of 10th and 11th January, we ran our annual Christmas tree collection fundraising event. In return for a donation of £10 (£16.50 for a large tree), we collected people’s trees from outside their house and took them away to be processed for use as biomass in renewable power generation. Around 40 parents and leaders from the group participated in the collection, driving three vans around Weston Green, Esher, Hinchley Wood, Molesey, Long Ditton and Thames Ditton for a day and a half, and gathering nearly 1,000 trees.

By doing this we raise thousands of pounds each year, which allows the scout group to purchase and maintain the vehicles and equipment it needs to continue to offer a full range of camps and other outdoor activities, and to keep our membership subscription fees low.
