Beaver Scouts (6-8)

Open to boys and girls aged between 6 and 8 years old, Beaver Scouts are the youngest members of our scouting family.

Our Beavers colony meets on Monday evenings during school terms, from 6.00pm to 7.15pm. Our base is the church hall at All Saints Weston Green (the white church by the pond), but in the summer you will often spot us outside on the commons, having adventures and learning new skills. The Beaver colony also frequently goes on local trips to learn new things and try new activities. Beavers get the chance to join in parades on special days, to participate in camps and spend their first nights away.

Beavers is a gentle introduction to scouting, with plenty of indoor and outdoor activities, designed to be just challenging enough for the age group.  A typical term’s activities might include pumpkin carving at Halloween, learning some basic knot skills, indoor and outdoor games an introduction to maps and navigation and an evening of traditional camp fire activities.  At this level, any nights away will normally be in a scout hut or similar accommodation, rather than under canvas.

Like all scout group sections, Beavers is run by a team of trained volunteers. Our leader is Badger (Neil Beardmore) and he is assisted by assistant leader Otter (George Burton), with a small team of section assistants and young leaders from the Explorer Scouts. We expect all parents to help at one evening every few weeks and to participate in other activities, including our scout group’s only fund-raising event, the annual Christmas tree collection service.  Parents will need to be DBS checked, which we will arrange soon after joining the group.

There is usually a waiting list to join 1st Weston Green Beavers, which you can join by clicking here. Preference will be given to children whose parents volunteer to help our Scout Group by becoming a section assistant, helping once a week when possible, and at weekend events, or by helping in other ways.  See our Fast Track Scheme page for details. If you can help us as an adult volunteer, let us know by filling out the form on our Adult Volunteers page.

See our Subscriptions and Fees page for information on how much it will cost to join the Beavers.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
