Scouts get practice in pitching tents
With the prospect fast approaching (fingers crossed) of being able to go camping for the first time in over a year, the Scout section was out on the common reminding themselves how tents work. Competition soon broke out and the teams raced to get their tent up first. But speed was not the only concern of the leaders. Scout Leader Nick and GSL Rob criticised some tents for slack guy ropes, misaligned pegs, or flysheets that had been rigged up so they touched the inner tent (which would mean a damp night if it rains). But with a few tweaks here and there, we soon had a field full of habitable tents.
Then came the second race of the evening, to get the tents down and packed neatly away.
At the end of the evening, the Scouts were assigned to Patrols, with some of the older Scouts being given the responsibility of becoming a Patrol Leader or Assistant Patrol Leader. Patrol badges were handed out to all present, and the Patrol Leaders and their assistants were given stripes for their uniforms.
