Off to Camp!

Date: 29th Jul 2023 Author: Nigel Harris

On a late July morning, a small convoy, comprising a minibus, a large van and two cars, all packed with young people, leaders and equipment, set off for a week in Dorset at the group’s annual Scouts section summer camp.  This year, as well as a large number of scouts (the leaders, I’m sure, know exactly how many), a smaller group of our Explorer Scouts (age 14-17) will be camping along with them at the same site.

It was good to see “shouty” Rob Cannell back in uniform, returning from his new home in Sussex to reprise his role as a scout leader and help out at this year’s camp.  The camp is under the overall leadership of Nick Fisk, with three other uniformed leaders there all week, plus some occasional parent volunteer help.

The group arrived in Dorset and set up all the tents in glorious sunshine.  Then the scouts cooked dinner for everyone, which was eaten al fresco as the sun headed for the horizon.  A full week of outdoor activities and adventures lies ahead!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
