Cubs Helping our Local Food Bank

Date: 15th Nov 2020 Author: Nigel Harris

Our most recent regular cubs section meeting on Thursday was an online Zoom meeting.  We had a visitor from East Elmbridge Food Bank, which covers our area.  Dave explained what a food bank is, why it is needed, and how it works.  The cubs asked lots of excellent questions about the kinds of food that the food bank needs, the donations that it gets most of, and the things that the food bank clients most like to receive.

We asked the cubs to make a donation to the food bank, including if possible one or two items paid for out of the cubs’ own pocket money.  We have been overwhelmed with generous donations, a small part of which are pictured here.  Some of the boys and girls in the cubs pack did extra chores at home to earn money for their foodbank shopping.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
