A new year begins

Date: 12th Sep 2022 Author: Nigel Harris

With the return to school, scouting is back on for another year.  Beavers and Scouts held their first meetings of the year at the Church Hall, with fun and games and getting to know new members.  The Cubs section is kicking off the year with a splash, going straight out on the river for a spot of canoeing.

Other activities planned this term include backwoods cooking, camping skills, a Christmas show, coding, electronics, geocaching, hiking, nerf wars, rifle shooting, survival camp, skywalk, quiz nights, Warhammer, and wide games.

The Scouts and some of the Cubs will be going camping together, or at least, on the same campground at the same time.  The Scouts are gearing up to take part in the Esher District night hike, which will see them, after some training and practice sessions, and with appropriate adult assistance, setting off into the dark at 6pm, and maybe not getting back until around midnight!  The Scouts are also hoping to enter a team into the Esher District air rifle shooting contest, although that will depend on how practice goes, and finding some Scouts who can hit the target!

So a big welcome back to our young people, their parents and our wonderful volunteer leaders.  Have fun, everyone!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
