A Wide Range of Winter Activities

Date: 6th Feb 2025 Author: Nigel Harris

In the grey, cold, rainy days of January and February, it’s difficult to get out and about, especially as it is dark early in the evening. But our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers have all been finding fun and challenging activities to do indoors.

The Cubs went on a visit to the RNLI lifeboat station in Teddington.  They have also been finding ways to celebrate Chinese New Year and National Pizza Day (I wonder what they did for that!)

The Scouts had an evening of retro computer gaming, reviving classic games from the 1990s.  They’re made of tough stuff, so they have also been out in the cold and dark doing night hikes on Esher commons, as well as learning how to cook that scout camp classic – spag bol.

The Beavers have been experimenting with communication by Morse code, with knots, and problem solving.  They also had an all-day weekend party with Beavers from all across the Esher district.

The Explorers have been doing outdoor cooking (despite the weather), and competing to see who can build the tallest tower, using the traditional scouting skill of ‘pioneering’ – engineering useful constructions using just sticks and rope.
