District Cub Hike

Date: 28th March 2020 Location:

An annual event in the Esher district calendar, this is a day hike of approximately 3-4 miles in length in the Leith Hill / Abinger area. The idea is to introduce Cubs to the basics of map reading and compass use, in a real rather than theoretical setting.

Packs from across the district are invited to enter any number of teams of four to eight cubs, each with at least two adults per team. Cubs should be capable of walking 3-4 miles. Adults should be proficient in map skills!

Our group usually enters several teams at this event, which is organised by our very own Akela and our Group Scout Leader.

Dress should be weather dependent, but definitely scruff kit and good walking shoes. Cubs will also need a small rucksack and a healthy packed lunch. The event starts from 9.30am, but each team will be given a specific start time, and teams usually take 2.5 to 3 hours to complete the hike.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
